Cycle run 2007
The cycle run this year raised £14690. Around 109 cyclists turned up for this tenth
anniversary run.
As in previous years we organised the family event running from
Callander along the old railway track to Strathyre and round the back road to Balquhidder,
stopping off at Mrs Watt’s at the Dunellan Guest house for tea, coffee, sandwiches
and home baking. We also had a number of participants opting for the route to Killin
which follows the same route to Balquhidder but then heads up Glen Ogle and down
into Killin. This run is around 50 miles and considering the hills is for experienced
cyclists only.
Sadly the weather did let us down with torrential downpours the night
before and howling gales through the night, which caused the marquee to collapse.
However the 109 participants seemed to enjoy the day.
To mark the tenth anniversary
of the event we arranged for a team from Airdrie Round Table to cycle a replica
of the first bicycle in the world (a Velocipede). The four intrepid cyclists (names)
cycled as far as Strathyre. In addition Mr Derek Davis from the Veteran Cycle club
also joined in on his original boneshaker cycle. He cycled to Strathyre and back
to support the Trust and to celebrate his 70th birthday.
